We take non‑fiction. Only non‑fiction.

Non-fiction finds new readers through our online bookstore, which is what keeps the pickup free. Everything else we have to leave behind.

Three steps. You never have to be home.

  1. 1

    Tell us about the books

Fill in the short form below, call Sam, or chat. Address, roughly how many boxes, and a photo if you have one. We email you a pickup day within one business day.

  2. 2

Box them and set them out

Any sturdy box or bag works. On pickup day, put them on your porch or the spot you told us about by the start of the window. Keep them dry — under a roof or a tarp. We can't take wet books.

  3. 3

    We collect from the porch

Our driver comes by during the window and takes the boxes. Contactless, nobody at your door, and your books are on their way to new readers.

Where we pick up

Eleven cities across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties. Tap your city for details.

Just outside these cities? Send the form anyway. For larger collections we can often make the trip.

Questions people ask

What kinds of books do you take?

Non-fiction only. Textbooks, art and photography books, scholarly books, history, biography, science, medicine, law, business, philosophy, religion, psychology, self-help, engineering, computers, travel, reference — any non-fiction subject.

We don't pick up fiction (novels, mysteries, thrillers, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, poetry), children's books, cookbooks, encyclopedias, Time-Life sets, magazines, or media like CDs, DVDs, tapes and records. Mixed collection? Box up just the non-fiction.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. No pickup fee, no fuel charge, no minimum beyond about one box.

Do I need to box the books? Do I need to be home?

Yes, please box them — any sturdy box or bag is fine. On pickup day set them on your porch (or a garage apron or side door you've told us about) and we collect during the window. It's contactless, so you don't need to be home.

What if it rains on pickup day?

Please don't leave the books out in the rain. Wet books can't be rehomed, so if the boxes are wet when we arrive we can't complete the pickup. Use a covered porch, a garage you've told us about, or a tarp. If heavy rain is forecast and you have no dry spot, reply to your confirmation email and we'll reschedule.

What happens to the books?

We're a used-book business, and that's what keeps the pickup free. Books in good condition are sold to readers through our online bookstore. Books we can't sell go to donation partners, and anything beyond saving is recycled.

Is it tax-deductible?

No. We're a business, not a registered charity, so we can't issue tax receipts. What you get is a free, easy way to clear your shelves and know the books will be read again.

How soon can you come?

We email you within one business day and usually schedule the pickup within the week. You set the boxes out that morning and we take it from there.

Who is Sam?

Sam is our AI assistant. It answers the phone and the chat on this site around the clock, answers questions, and takes your pickup details. A person on our team then picks the day and emails you.
